Glimpses of Africa (A Set of Poems)

注：hūn chén ——昏晨、昏沉
With dashing black and white stripes
Reaching to the hunchen,
Shredding the gold of the Savannah
Note: Hunchen: (1) Dusk and dawn; (2) Drowsy.
注：bó—— 搏、脖。 在肯尼亚，见到两只长颈鹿在金色的晚霞中，用脖子相互撞击，我们以为是雌雄示爱。但导游说，那是两只雄性的长颈鹿为争夺地位而战。
A kaleidoscope of colorful butterflies
Holding the setting sun with their flapping wings
Note: Neck in Chinese is bo, which is also a homophone of the Chinese character for "fighting." In Kenya, I saw two giraffes striking each other with their long necks under the golden sunset, and thought that it was a showing of affection between a male and a female. But according to our tour guide, it was two male giraffes fighting for domination.
注：肯尼亚的纳库鲁湖（Lake Nakuru）有大量的火烈鸟（又叫红鹤）栖居。Jīng xīn —— 精心 、惊心。
Like red cranes landing on the lake
Blood splashing across a chessboard
Each move, jingxin, and arresting
Who is playing?
Lake Nakuru in Kenya has a massive number of flamingos. Jingxin: (1) Careful, meticulous; (2) Thrilling, breathtaking, alarmingly dangerous.
Rushing from capture of the long lens
Chasing the fleeing horizon
A glimpse of an eye
Crouching at your feet like a domestic cat
shēng sè 遍体
注： shēng sè——生涩、声色、生色；yuán——源、原、元。
Shengse all over
An unpolished yuan poem
A blue tone that colors the vast sky
A sprout breaking through the ground
Note: Shengse: (1) Raw and astringent; (2) Sound and color, sensitive; (3) Add color to, give added significance to. Yuan: (1) Source; (2) Original; (3) Meta, (of a creative work) referring to itself or to the conventions of its genre; self-referential.
Curvy and wavy like rolling hills
With a jar on her head filled with hardships
Rainbow scarf streaming out behind her along the way
Shedding sweat, blood, tears and love
An Old Man
You carved the shadow of trees into black masks
You intended to carve out hidden secrets of the tree’s rings
You were pursuing immortality of the goddess in your dreams
You feel fulfilled despite your pain, for time is carving you now
